Welcome to the Maven Evaluation Site for JavaMUG - February 2007

This site was put together to help JavaMUG members evaluate Maven as an alternative to Ant.

It was put together by Pete Carapetyan, a die-hard Maven enthusiast. Erik Weibust contributed by providing appropriate doses of skepticism and impatience along the way, which greatly improved this document.

There is virtually nothing on this site which you could not learn from the Maven site, this is only provided as a place to speed things up for an evaluation.

This site VS the time consuming approach:

  • This site assumes that you are entirely skeptical.
  • This site assumes that you don't have any time to waste, and even if you did you'd probably spend it elsewhere.
  • This site assumes that you want someone else to go through the land mines, you just want to get to work.

To use this site:

  • Do the intro FAQ, or do the maven tutorials from the maven site. Either one shouldn't take long, and give you a kind of a start.
  • Go through those few "Ant vs Maven" issues that interest you. If they interest you enough, consider taking things further

....... but before you go very far into it, scan through these FAQs at least enough to know that they won't be getting in the way.

    • Glossary FAQ - Can't talk about something until you at least know the language.
    • Gotta Know FAQ - Things I found it impossible to get past without learning first.
    • Stumbling Block FAQ - Facts you can get by without, but may be easier to study first.
  • If you're just looking for reference, tips, and what is the cool stuff, what I did was take the stuff that I had a hard time finding and put in these easy to find places

Hey ! You made this site using Maven !

Yes. Sure did. Ran this command:
